Nico Jamin, the 2015 USF2000 champion and, third-place finisher in the Pro Mazda points table last year, will be graduating to Indy Lights with Andretti Autosport for 2017.
The Frenchman will replace Dean Stoneman in the #27 Dallara-Mazda IL15, and will partner series sophomore Dalton Kellett.
Despite Team Pelfrey winning 13 of the 16 Pro Mazda races in 2016, Jamin dominated the double-header at Mid-Ohio this year and scored 11 other top-five finishes, driving for Cape Motorsports with Wayne Taylor Racing.
Said team owner Michael Andretti: “We are really pleased to welcome Nico to our Indy Lights team. His progress in the Mazda Road To Indy system has been promising so far and he was impressive in recent testing. We’re looking forward to a competitive season for Nico and the #27 team.”
Last month, Jamin finished the Chris Griffis Memorial Test on IMS road course second fastest overall. The 20-year-old Frenchman said:
“I remember my first USF2000 race back in 2014, walking by Mario Andretti in the paddock and I asked him to take a picture with me. That day, I was far to think that I was going to drive for a team owned by his son, Michael, a few years later.
“This is a dream come true and I thank everyone who made it possible - my family, partners, the whole Andretti team and fellow Frenchman, J-F Thormann [executive VP and COO at Andretti Autosport]. We have had extremely positive test days already and I am very much looking forward to seeing the first green flag of the season wave at St. Petersburg."
