Meira To Start 17th at the Glen

WATKINS GLEN, NY July 3--Vitor Meira will start 17th in the Camping World Grand Prix at Watkins Glen International.

In round one, Meira qualified ninth quick this afternoon in his group with a speed of 132.722mph. Because only the top six in each of the first two groups of 12 cars advance to the next round, Meira will start on the inside of row nine.

"I think the lack of practice this morning because of the fuel pump problem hurt us a little bit maybe and any little bit you give up in this series means positions. I think we're one step behind because of that. Not only that, we didn't unload like we have been unloading this year. We unloaded with the car far from where it needed to be and we made huge improvements from yesterday to today but we needed that little bit of track time because we needed to learn so much. Team Penske took the first three spots on the grid with Will Power claiming the pole over Helio Castroneves and Ryan Briscoe. Indy 500 winner Dario Franchitti, former Formula One driver Takumo Sato and last year's race winner here Justin Wilson rounded out the Firestone Fast Six.
