RAPHAEL MATOS AND DE FERRAN DRAGON RACING TEAM MATCH THEIR BEST QUALIFYING SESSION OF THE SEASON AT TORONTO

For the second consecutive race, Raphael Matos narrowly missed the Fast Six and ultimately posted his best starting position of the season by qualifying 11th at the IZOD IndyCar Series Honda Indy Toronto.

Despite turning his fastest lap of 1:01.2820 in the final minute of the second qualifying round, Matos was bumped from seventh to 11th, missing the top six by .3219. It is the second race in a row that he will start 11th.

"I'm a little disappointed because I thought we would make it into the fast six today," Matos said. "Unfortunately the crash this morning hurt us. I give all the credit to the team for putting the car back together and getting us ready for qualifying. As hopeful as I was that we'd make the fast six, 11th is still a good result."

Matos crashed into the tire barrier in turn six during the beginning of the morning practice, damaging the left side suspension. The team worked between the sessions to prepare the backup HP McAfee car.

"I think we can be reasonably pleased with the results of the session," managing partner and team president Gil de Ferran said. "The crew did a great job getting the spare car ready and Rafa did a good job in the car. Effectively with the crash this morning we lost one session of development and are one step behind everyone else. Yet, we were still this close to the top 10 and just .300 from the top six. That's not a bad accomplishment. Now we need to take what we learned in qualifying and apply it for the race tomorrow."

"It will be a long race tomorrow," Matos said. "We just need to be smart with our strategy and run a clean race."
