Texas winner is fined and docked points for rules violation

Dale Coyne Racing, fresh off of its first-ever Indy Car oval-track victory, was docked five entrant points today and fined $7,500 by Indy Car for not complying with a change in aerodynamic parts mandated by the series.

The #18 car of Justin Wilson will not lose its victory, nor will Wilson forfeit any driver points, but the fine will stand and the owner’s points will be deducted.

The series put out a bulletin over the Belle Isle weekend saying that a certain aero element that is mounted on the top deck of the sidepod was not allowed for Saturday’s event at Texas, but it was apparently found on the #18 car after the race.

In addition, Ed Carpenter Racing was fined $5,000 and lost one entrant point for not following the rules concerning the rear wing wicker, the issuance of which came during the Texas weekend.
