VISION RACING FINISHES FIFTH AND SIXTH IN FIRST PRACTICE AT TEXAS

FORT WORTH, Texas - Conditions for the opening IndyCar Series practice session at Texas Motor Speedway were windy, warm and fast as Vision Racing drivers A.J. Foyt IV and Ed Carpenter were fifth and sixth quick overall.

Practicing under the lights in preparation for the Bombardier Learjet 550, the duo looked comfortable and fast on the 1.5-mile oval, in spite of the extreme wind.

Driving the No. 2 Lilly Diabetes/Vision Racing Honda/Dallara/Firestone machine, Foyt was fifth fastest on the night with a top lap at 212.284 mph. He completed 62 laps.

Foyt has six career IndyCar Series attempts at Texas with a best start of 11th and a best finish of 10th. He's been running at the finish twice and has just one top-10 finish on the 1.5-mile oval.

Putting in 68 laps behind the wheel of the No. 20 Menards/Vision Racing Honda powered Dallara, Carpenter was sixth fastest with a quick lap of 212.164 mph.

Carpenter also has six career IndyCar Series starts at Texas with a best start of seventh and a best and only running finish of ninth.

A.J. Foyt IV - No. 2 Lilly Diabetes/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"It's pretty tricky out there with the wind. You've got two different sides of the race track with the car handling totally different in each corner, but I'm pretty happy with how the No.2 Lilly Diabetes car unloaded. We're pretty quick so we have a pretty good base line to look at overnight and see what we've got to do."

Ed Carpenter - No. 20 Menards/Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

"Typical Texas, it's hard to really hard to get more speed out of the car than you come here with. It seems like everyone's car is changing quite a bit from new tires to old tires so the pace may slow down quite a bit. I'm not sure if the racing going to be quite like it has been in the past because the tires seem to be falling off (wearing) more than normally. We'll try to make it better tomorrow, but I'm not sure how much more we'll be able to improve from today."
