IZOD IndyCar Series - Firestone 550k
Texas Motor Speedway - Fort Worth, Texas
June 4-5, 2010 - Round 7 of 17
Race Distance: 342 miles/550.396 kilometers (228 laps around the 1.5-mile/2.414-kilometer superspeedway).
Firestone Firehawk Race Tires Supplied:
* Each entry receives eight sets (32 total tires) for the race weekend; total of 1,020 tires available.
* Firestone's tire specification for Texas features new compounds for the left-side tires paired with the same right-side tire specs used last month at Kansas.
* Tire stagger: A single stagger of about 0.45 of an inch is available. Stagger is the diameter difference between the right rear and left rear tires, with the right rear larger by design to make a racecar naturally want to turn left.
From Al Speyer, Executive Director, Firestone Racing: "We're very excited for Firestone to take on title sponsorship of the Texas Motor Speedway event. Year in and year out, the Texas race is one of the most electrifying on the IZOD IndyCar Series schedule, and a race that competitors and fans alike look forward to. Eddie Gossage and his TMS staff do a tremendous job promoting the event, assuring that the Firestone brand will receive some great exposure for the Firestone 550k. Of course, we have to back it up with fast and reliable race tires so the drivers can again put on a great show. We believe Firestone Racing has just the tire to do so. Our unparalleled race tire development group has come up with a new Firehawk spec that should stand up to the stressful demands of Texas' high banks, constant speeds and extreme loads placed on the cars and drivers. It's time for the Firestone 550k, and we can't wait to see what happens."
Firestone "Tire-ific" Move of the Race: Following each IZOD IndyCar Series race in 2010, Firestone Racing nominates three drivers who best utilized their Firestone tires to make a bold, dramatic move during the event. Fans can go to www.indycar.com in the days after the race and vote for the nominee they believe made the most "Tire-ific" move of the race, with the top vote-getter earning the honor. The $20,000 prize from the Indy 500 - double the amount awarded at other races - goes to Tony Kanaan for his dramatic drive from 33rd starting position to run as high as second before finishing 11th. Kanaan will be presented the check in Firestone 550k pre-race ceremonies Saturday night.
