DREYER & REINBOLD RACING HAD A WILD RIDE IN TEXAS
Fort Worth, TX (June 5, 2010)- Dreyer & Reinbold Racing had a wild ride today for the seventh round of the IZOD IndyCar Series at the Firestone 550 in Fort Worth, Texas. The Indianapolis-based squad endured plenty of action during the 228 lap race.
As the green flag dropped, things were looking positive for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing drivers Tomas Scheckter (No. 24 Roll Coater) and Justin Wilson (No. 22 Charter Communications). They both had a strong start, but unfortunately, that rapidly changed for the team. Wilson, who started in 12th position, began to fall back as each lap turned. As a result, he had to come in early on lap 42 to get a turn of front wing and to put on new tires and fill with fuel. Luckily the change helped, but it was a struggle to work his way up the grid. He would come in again on laps 60, 65, 105, 112, 171, and 223 to fill up on fuel or to get both fuel and tires. Luckily, after his third trip to Texas Motor Speedway, he was able to bring the No. 22 Charter Communications car home in 19th position.
Scheckter, who replaced the injured Mike Conway this weekend, had a very up and down race. The South African started 18th and quickly worked his way up the grid. He came in on lap 47 for fuel and tires and would continue to battle on the track. He came in again on lap 100 for more of the same. Unfortunately, his luck would change. Scheckter came in again on lap 133 due to an incident in the pits. As a result, he had to come back in on lap 134 and again on lap 136 and eventually filtered back to 17th. From that point on Scheckter would fight to the front and in the end he earned a 13th place result.
On another note, Mike Conway was released from Methodist Hospital yesterday.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing heads straight to Watkins Glen for a test and then back home for a weekend off. The team will hit the pavement June 20th in Iowa for the Iowa Corn Indy 250.
What they have to say about the Firestone 550:
Justin Wilson, No. 22 Charter: "It was a tough day. We had bags and bags of under-steer and had to add a couple of turns of wing. The car was better on it's own, but in traffic there was still a lot of under-steer. It was a struggle to keep up and it was tough to drive the car. All in all, it was just a frustrating day, but hopefully we can come back stronger at the next one and the guys are pretty optimistic about Iowa, so I'm looking forward to that."
Tomas Scheckter, No. 24 Roll Coater: "It was a good race and the guys gave me a great car. I just want to thank Roll Coater, Mona Vie, Laverstoke, Z-Line Designs, and everybody else that was on the car. I also want to thank the Dreyer & Reinbold Racing guys and Dennis and Robbie for giving me this opportunity. We had a great car, but everything else that could go wrong, did go wrong. We knew we struggled to get into the pits with the steering, but it was a lot harder during the race with Marco's (Andretti) guys and I just physically could not get in the pits the right way. We recovered well and the team did a great job. All in all, we definitely showed that we could go quick and we just need to put it all together now."
