Franchitti Leads Opening Day at Infineon

Defending race winner Dario Franchitti led the opening one-hour practice Friday at Infineon Raceway as IZOD IndyCar Series activities began on the 2.3-mile road course, located just north of San Francisco, in preparation for Sunday's Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma.

Franchitti, who won here in 2009 en route to his second IndyCar Series title, edged current series points leader Will Power by just 41 thousandths of a second, as just over one second separated the top 16 drivers in the 25-car field at Infineon. Power's second-fastest run is also notable as he suffered season-ending injuries, including a fractured back, in a multi-car crash here in practice last year.

Driving for the new FAZZT Race Team, Alex Tagliani was third quickest in the single practice session, with Franchitti's Target Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon fourth and Justin Wilson rounding out the top five for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.
