A.J. Allmendinger, 19, of Hollister, CA and Bryan Sellers, 19, of Centerville, OH, were awarded the Team USA Scholarships for 2001.

The two young Americans will compete in the upcoming New Zealand International Formula Ford Championship, which will take place over four weekends in January and early February. Allmendinger, chosen from an initial group of 12 talented American candidates, currently races in the Formula Dodge National Championship presented by Racer magazine and stands second in the point chase. Sellers ran the National Championship last year and finished second.

The program, organized by motor sports journalist Jeremy Shaw and sponsored by CART, Tasman Motorsports Group, Craig Company LLC, Klein Tools, Road Racing Drivers Club, Skip Barber Racing School, Jim Russell Racing Drivers' School and Buttonwillow Raceway Park, is in its 11th year.

Graduates include Formula Dodge standout Bryan Herta, Skip Barber trained Memo Gidley, Jerry Nadeau and Joey Hand as well as Paul Edwards, Phil Giebler. Jimmy Vasser, and Buddy Rice.

"The standard of the contenders seems to get better and better each year," says Herta, who won the award in 1991 and has his own program called "Stars of Tomorrow."
