Carpenter Finishes 18Th And 16Th, Respectively, In Firestone Twin 275S At TMS
In only their second race together, Sarah Fisher Racing (SFR) and veteran IZOD Indycar ® Series driver Ed Carpenter finished in the 18th and 16th spots, respectively, in the Firestone Twin 275s under the stars at Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) Saturday evening. Carpenter rolled off the grid from the fifth starting position in race one, but the car later developed severe understeer. The team made adjustments to the No. 67 Dollar General machine during their first pit stop, making the car better for the second stint.
Ed Carpenter (following race one): "I'm really disappointed. We had a great starting spot, but we missed the balance. We went to huge understeer early in the race and dropped back to 20th. It just killed the first segment for us. We got a few spots back, but we lost so much time with the race going green as long as it did. I'm really disappointed for the guys because we should've been better than that. I'm partially to blame just by the decisions going into the race, but we're going to try to rebound here. Hopefully we get a good draw, another good starting spot, make the car better, and stay up front the whole time."
The team made changes to the car during the 70-minute intermission, while Carpenter drew the tenth starting position for race number two of the evening.
Ed Carpenter (following race two): "Race two was a little different than the first. We definitely made the car better, but just got caught in a couple of bad situations where I had to lift because a couple of guys washed up in front of me, so we lost some spots. That's the one thing that stinks about the shorter race. You get behind and there is no time to recover. We didn't do a good enough job in these two races tonight, myself included. I feel bad for the team and Dollar General because we had a faster car than where we finished both races and that's frustrating."
