As Dennis Reinbold hinted at earlier this week, Sage Karam is to rejoin the team with whom he made his Indy 500 and IndyCar Series debut two years ago.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing’s #24 Dallara-Chevrolet, co-entered by Kingdom Racing, will be sponsored by Dallas car restorers Gas Monkey Garage.
"We are extremely excited and proud to partner with Gas Monkey Garage,” said Dennis Reinbold. “We’ve been working very hard since last year’s 500 to build a strong commercial and competitive program for the 100th running.
"We believe Sage Karam is a very talented driver and we can’t wait for the month of May. The Gas Monkey Garage brand is known worldwide and bringing them to the Indianapolis 500 for the first time is a thrill."
Karam took ninth place in his first Indy 500 back in 2014, racing a Ganassi car run by D&RR. The 2013 Indy Lights champion then made 12 IndyCar starts for Chip Ganassi Racing last season, scoring a best result of third at Iowa Speedway, and also clocking fifth at Fontana's Auto Club Speedway.
However, Karam was released by Ganassi in December and allowed to pursue other opportunities.
"I’m really thrilled to be associated with Gas Monkey Garage for the 100th Indy 500,” said Karam. “It’s exciting to return to the Dreyer & Reinbold – Kingdom team as well. We had a great run in 2014 at Indy."
Reinbold, meanwhile, has also told Motorsport.com that he is working on finding a teammate for Karam, and favored JR Hildebrand, Oriol Servia and Townsend Bell.
However, he also suggested that the chances of finding the funds to make that happen were currently less than 50/50.
