Ryan Briscoe sustains wrist injury and will require surgery
Ryan Briscoe was caught up in a crash when two of his competitors had contact. The Australian will now miss the second race of the IndyCar Series doubleheader event in Toronto.

Ryan Briscoe entered the year without a full-season ride in the IZOD IndyCar Series. Yet the Australian race car driver has been busier than most of his competitors running in two different series. His rides in IndyCar is not every race but Briscoe is one of the three full-season drivers for the Level 5 Motorsports two car team in the American Le Mans Series; which included the 24 of Le Mans.
Coming off the victory at Lime Rock Park with Scott Tucker last weekend in their Honda HPD P2 car, Briscoe was free to accept the ride for this weekend with Panther Racing in their National Guard Chevrolet. However now he is sidelined for tomorrow's race on the street circuit at Exhibition Place.
Briscoe sustained the injury on his right wrist when he was sitting in 12th with the aim of moving the No. 4 Chevrolet up to the top ten by race end. Justin Wilson and and Ganassi Racing's Charlie Kimball had contact, and Wilson ended up directly in the path of Briscoe who could not avoid the contact with Wilson in the Dale Coyne Racing Honda.
Due to the fact that it happened so fast, Briscoe was still holding on to his steering wheel; hence the broken right wrist.
Panther Racing's John Barnes spoke with IndyCar's orthopedic consultant Dr. Terry Trammel and the news per Barnes "was the quick recovery time for this type of injury is very encouraging."
The Australian's next race with Panther Racing is at Mid-Ohio.
"All of us at Panther Racing hate to see this happen to Ryan," said Barnes.
At this time the Panther team has yet to decide on a substitute driver for Racer 2 of the Toronto doubleheader. There are top-notch Indy Lights drivers at the venue plus no doubt former racers with their helmets in hand.
