Yesterday we were ninth in our group and were maybe a little more than four-tenths (of a second) off. To advance it only took two-tenths, its so competitive.

Unfortunately here this weekend we don’t seem to have the mojo we had at Long Beach. We are struggling. Its frustrating but we just have to keep working at it. Today we are going to get our first chance at starting in the back and tomorrow we will get another chance. Without a doubt its not where you want to start.

The standing start is going to be interesting. We’ll see what happens. At Newman/Haas, I started in the back in 2010 and finished fifth so it can be done. It just takes a lot of work, that’s for sure.”

James Jakes, No. 16 Acorn Stairlifts Dallara/Honda/Firestone: "The session was going okay. We didn’t quite make the improvements that we wanted but I still think we had a top-five car, I just made a mistake pushing a little bit too hard. We’ll see what we can do starting in the back, which is a shame, but we will put a good strategy together and work our way forward."
