Open-Wheel Stars Return to Richmond International Raceway June 26-27

Richmond, VA (June 8, 2009)--IndyCar Series driver Helio Castroneves continued his run toward the top of the point standings by scoring a victory at Texas Motor Speedway this past weekend. Despite missing the first race of the season, the driver of the No. 3 Team Penske car has moved into fourth place by scoring two wins in the young season. Castroneves won the Indianapolis 500 in May and is now only 13 points behind his teammate, Ryan Briscoe.

Castroneves will look for another win later this month when the IndyCar Series returns to Richmond International Raceway for the ninth running of the SunTrust Indy Challenge on Saturday, June 27, "under the lights." The Brazilian, known for his famous fence-climbing post-victory celebrations, found Gatorade Victory Lane at Richmond International Raceway in 2005.

Briscoe finished second at Texas, followed by defending series champion Scott Dixon, Marco Andretti, Dan Wheldon and Danica Patrick.

Castroneves, Briscoe and Wheldon will be joined by E.J. Viso and Raphael Matos this Wednesday at Richmond International Raceway for a test session, which is open to the public at no charge. The grandstands will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guests may park and enter at Gate 70.

The IndyCar Series returns to America's Premier Short Track on Saturday, June 27 for the SunTrust Indy Challenge IndyCar Series race. The open-wheel drivers will reach speeds of 180 mph around the shortest track the series visits. Tickets are $35 (reserved) and $30 (general admission) and can be purchased by logging on to www.rir.com or calling 866-455-RACE (7223). Children 12 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult in general admission sections. Saturday's ticket includes a seat for the James River Grounds 100 USAC Silver Crown Series race, preceding the SunTrust Indy Challenge.

The weekend begins on Friday, June 26, with NBC12 Pole Qualifying for the IndyCar Series and the USAC Sprint Car Series Rotondo Weirich Showdown race "under the lights." TIckets are $15 and include an autograph session with all of the IndyCar Series drivers. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a ticketed adult.
