Dreyer & Reinbold Racing Continues Momentum in Richmond
Richmond, Virginia (June 26, 2009) - Dreyer & Reinbold Racing continued their momentum from last weekend into today's qualifying session for the Suntrust Indy Challenge in Richmond, Virginia. The team's drivers, Tomas Scheckter (No. 23 MonaVie) and Mike Conway (No. 24 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing), qualified 9th and 11th respectively.
Scheckter kept motoring along as he worked diligently to find the right speed for today's session. After coming off of a strong result last weekend with a sixth place result, he carried that into qualifying as he clocked a total lap time of 1:05.6769 (164.441 mph), securing a ninth place starting position for tomorrow's race. The South African will make his seventh appearance at the 0.75 D-shaped track. Scheckter competed for the first time at Richmond International Raceway in 2002. He has had two top-five and two top-ten finishes at the famed short-track oval.
Today marks Englishman Mike Conway's first time to compete at Richmond International Raceway. He was quick throughout practice with a solid time of 1:05.8017 (164.129 mph). The rookie will start 11th on the grid. The Brit continues to gain confidence and looks forward to the race tomorrow.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will be on track at 8:45 p.m. ET for the Suntrust Indy Challenge, which will be live on VERSUS.
What they had to say--
Tomas Scheckter, No. 23 MonaVie: "The MonaVie crew did a great a job in getting the car straight out of the box. It was very quick in the first session and we managed to get fifth. We missed the setup a little bit in qualifying, but to be solidly in the top ten, the guys did a great job. We are going to carry on working on it and continue on the momentum we had in Iowa and hopefully get a good result for the team and MonaVie."
Mike Conway, No. 24 Dreyer & Reinbold Racing: "Our session went okay. I lost too much time on the first lap and I'm a little disappointed I didn't get my first lap done properly. I think we have a good car for the race tomorrow. We will work on perfecting it tonight during the practice session."
Dennis Reinbold, co-owner Dreyer & Reinbold Racing: During practice we had pretty good cars and the sessions went fairly well. We found some things that gave us a little more speed. We ended up qualifying 9th and 11th today and we are a little disappointed in that. We thought that we could have been a little bit higher on the grid, but I think both cars are going to be really solid for tomorrow night's race. Our plan is to back up our good finishes in Iowa with even better ones for this weekend. Richmond is a tough track and a lot can happen here, so hopefully we can have a good, smooth run and bring it home in first."
