Rahal scores fourth top-five finish at Sonoma

Sonoma, Calif. – Service Central Chip Ganassi Racing (SCCGR) driver Graham Rahal finished fifth in the GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma at Sonoma Raceway. The result marked the 20th top-five finish of his IZOD IndyCar Series career and his fourth top-five through 13 rounds of the 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series season.

The No. 38 team would team would start the 85-lap race from 13th position and battle its way up the field utilizing a three pit-stop, alternate strategy.

The GoPro Grand Prix would undergo two caution periods resulting in a total of 11 laps. In the second caution, Graham would go back to green from seventh position.

During the first green lap and with seven laps to go, the No. 38 would enter the top-five for the first time, moving to fifth position. Rahal would hold this spot for the remainder of the race until he crossed the finish-line.

The finish marked Rahal’s best-finish at Sonoma Raceway. Of a total five career starts at Sonoma, his previous best result of eighth came in both 2008 and 2011.

With the result, Rahal holds 10th position to in the IZOD IndyCar Series point standing with 286 markers, -136 points behind points leader Will Power.
