Pocono rookie recap
Motorsport.com's Christopher DeHarde looks at the performance of rookies at this weekend's record setting 500 mile event at "the tricky triangle," Pocono Raceway.

We’ve had our second 500 mile race this weekend, so let’s see how our rookies did.
Mikhail Aleshin
Start: 12th Finish: 7th
Aleshin has been getting better and better on the ovals this year. He didn’t have the best of runs at the Indianapolis 500, but he’s had two consecutive seventh place finishes. I’m wondering how well he will do at Iowa, given that it’s not even a mile long and he’ll be busy the entire time working with traffic. I’ll give him a 3/5 for this race since he was able to replicate his Texas Motor Speedway result.
Jack Hawksworth
DNS/DNF
Hawksworth did not start the race due to a bruising on his heart that he suffered from a crash during practice. I’ll have to unfortunately give him a 0/5 for the race since he didn’t get a chance to perform in the race. Better luck for him in Iowa.
Carlos Huertas
Start: 20th Finish: 20th
Huertas had electrical failure early in the race so wasn’t able to show if his oval pace had gotten better. However, in the 89 laps he completed, he was always in the bottom two or three cars running I’ll give Huertas a 2/5 for this race.
Carlos Munoz
Start: 3rd Finish: 3rd
Munoz wasn’t afraid to dice it up with the guys up front and kept himself in the hunt during the race. He didn’t put a wheel wrong and got another top-five finish on a big oval, which seems to be his forté. I’ll give him a 4/5 for this race, since he kept the hammer down to get his third third place finish and fourth top-five finish of the year, which is pretty good considering he’s sixth in points.
Standings:
Aleshin: 34/55
Hawksworth: 33/55
Huertas: 31/55
Munoz: 34/55
