National Guard Driver Hildebrand Finishes 24th Overall in Long Beach Practice
LONG BEACH, California - (April 15, 2011) – National Guard Panther Racing driver JR Hildebrand finished 24th overall during the first day of practice for Sunday’s Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. Hildebrand will be making his first IZOD IndyCar Series start on the temporary street circuit, and the 23-year-old Californian is currently leading the series Rookie of the Year point standings.
Hildebrand turned a total of 52 laps on the day and posted a top speed of 97.809 mph, 1:12.4348 seconds.
The Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach will be broadcast live on VERSUS next Sunday at 3:30 pm with additional coverage provided by the IMS Radio Network, XM Channel 145 and Sirius Channel 121.
JR Hildebrand, No. 4 National Guard Dallara Honda:
“In the first session we felt pretty good about how we were looking, and we had trouble in both sessions finding clear track on new tires. That was the case in both new tire runs at the end of each session and we hardly got anything out of it. The last session we were looking really good through the middle of the session and had a couple of changes planned before the practice started that we just wanted to try and ultimately we ended up going back on both of them. So that took us out of our time frame in the middle of the run and at the end we couldn’t catch back up quickly enough. The car’s really close, so we’re going to look at the data because we’re not that many changes away from a car that’s good for the top ten – we’ve just got to make sure we get there in the morning.”
