Newgarden places 13th in Part 2 at Grand Prix of Houston
On lap 73, Newgarden made contact with the No. 25 car of Marco Andretti, resulting in a drive-through penalty

HOUSTON (Oct. 6, 2013) - Through nine caution periods and multiple on track incidents, Josef Newgarden and Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing (SFHR) took home 13th place in Race 2 at the Grand Prix of Houston doubleheader event.
Newgarden drove the No. 67 Strike Dallara/Honda/Firestone car as high as 10th place during the 90-lap race before encountering a few setbacks.
"We were pretty unlucky with the timing of yellows with our pit stops," Newgarden said. "I made a mistake toward the end of the race and it ended up breaking our front wing. The guys did a great job of getting the wing changed as fast as possible"
On lap 73, Newgarden made contact with the No. 25 car of Marco Andretti, resulting in a drive-through penalty.
"At that point we just had to focus on finishing the race as best as we could," Newgarden said. "The circumstances didn't reflect where we could have been, but sometimes those things happen.
"Overall, the Strike car was incredible this weekend. All of the people from Strike were so supportive. We can do a great job for them in the future and I think it would be incredible to represent them again. I'm really glad that we had a great finish for them in Race 1."
On the final lap Newgarden maneuvered around the remnants of a violent multiple car crash involving drivers Dario Franchitti, Takuma Sato and E.J. Viso.
"The most important thing is that everyone is hopefully safe coming out of the day," he said. "It was a pretty bad wreck at the end in Turn 5."
Penske Racing's Will Power won Race 2, followed by Scott Dixon and James Hinchcliffe, respectively. Newgarden and SFHR will fly west to Fontana, Calif. for the 2013 IZOD IndyCar Series season finale on Oct. 19.
