FORT WORTH, Texas (6 June 2014) - Rising Star Racing driver Josef Newgarden put his unforgettable Strike-liveried Dallara/Honda on the front row at Texas Motor Speedway in qualifying for Sarah Fisher Hartman Racing on Friday to notch his best-ever Verizon IndyCar Series oval qualifying result.

Newgarden’s time of 217.835 mph will see him start from second on the grid alongside Verizon P1 pole winner Will Power as the IndyCar Series traveled to the quick 1.5-mile Texas oval which is a drastic venue change from last weekend's double-header street race in Detroit.

“I was happily surprised to be honest with you,” said Newgarden, who lead the 2013 edition of the race. “We worked mainly on race set up this morning. The name of the game is to figure out how to reduce the tire degradation. We focused on that, and just threw something at it for qualifying. But the car was just really fast. I don't know if it's that it looks so good that it was fast. It was really good, really balanced. The team just did a great job. I'm really pleased. Normally when you have a quick car that handles good in qualifying, normally it's too easy. That bodes well for the race. I hope that's true for us.”

Newgarden has enjoyed a lot more pace than racing luck this year, and will target a big result on Saturday night with the No. 67 Strike/Rising Star Racing machine.

Be sure to tune in to NBCSN starting at 8:00 PM for the start of the Firestone 600.
