ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. (February 4, 2002) ^Ö Team USA Scholarship winner and Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship driver Bryan Sellers just missed winning the New Zealand International Formula Ford Championship, following the final two rounds this past weekend.

In race one of the doubleheader, Sellers started second, needing only a finish of third place or better to clinch the championship. At the start, Sellers passed Kenny Smith, who started on pole, taking the lead. Sellers lead the opening four laps until he had contact with fellow title contender Nick Ross, ending Sellers race. Following a valiant effort from his Crawford Services team, Sellers started race two at the back of the grid with a repaired car. Right from the drop of the green flag Sellers worked his way through the field and late in the race looked to be in position to capture the championship with a third place finish. However luck was not on the 19 year-old's side, as a driveshaft broke with two laps remaining in the race. Winning both rounds, Fabian Coulthard captured the championship.

"All I needed was to finish," said Sellers. "There was no problem at all, and then it just stopped. I had no drive whatsoever. "I gave it a go, but unfortunately it just wasn't meant to be."

With the New Zealand International Formula Ford Championship now complete, Sellers returns to America and begins preparations for the upcoming Formula Ford 2000 Zetec Championship.
