Junqueira and Moraes Defeat the Milwaukee Mile
West Allis, Wisconsin (June 1, 2008) - Despite the official results, both Dale Coyne Racing drivers Bruno Junqueira and Mario Moraes felt good about their performances Sunday afternoon in the ABC Supply A.J. Foyt 225 at the Milwaukee Mile.
The Milwaukee Mile is one of the more unforgiving and difficult tracks to drive on the IndyCar® Series schedule this year. Most teams deem it a successful race to leave the track with the car still in one piece.
The 31-year-old Junqueira managed to drive his #18 Z-Line Designs car to an 18th- place finish despite having a severe under steer problem with the car most of the race. The problem only intensified as he put more laps on the tires. "It was a tough race to drive today," said Junqueira. "The under steer made the car very difficult to go fast. We made a couple of changes that helped, but the under steer was still there."
Moraes gave another solid performance Sunday as the rookie finished 23rd despite a problematic pit stop that cost the Brazilian a few laps under green. John Andretti's car blocked the entrance to Mario's pit box, which caused him to stall the car. Mario's pit crew had to re-position and restart the car before it could get back into the race.
For the fifth time in six races in 2008, Moraes was running at the end of the race.
"It was a challenge to drive the Milwaukee Mile," said 19-year-old Moraes. "I'm just happy that we were running at the end of the race. It was a great learning experience going into Texas next weekend."
The IndyCar Series heads to the Texas Motor Speedway June 6 in Fort Worth, TX for the running of the Bombardier Learjet 550. The race can be seen live on ESPN 2 Saturday starting at 10 p.m. (EDT).
