Mike Conway finishes 9th in the Grand Prix of Houston Race 2

London, UK – October 6, 2013 – Mike Conway finishes ninth in Race 2 of the Shell & Pennzoil Grand Prix of Houston today in Houston, Texas.

With qualifying being cancelled this morning because of the track being determined “undriveable” due to standing water, the starting grid was set by entrant points. Conway therefore started 16th and by the time the race came round, the weather had gone from cold and wet, to warm and sunny.

At the start of the race, the talented Brit was able to make a couple of places up and by lap 28 he was running inside the top-10. However struggling with getting his No. 18 Sonny's Bar-B-Q Honda up to temperature meant the numerous restarts made it hard to overtake. Conway drove a smart and patient race and spent the majority of the race in 10th until the final lap where he managed to avoid a huge and very scary accident moving him to ninth.

“We improved the car a bit from yesterday which was good,” said Conway. “We really struggled on the restarts trying to get temperature into things so I couldn’t really do anything other than hold back and keep out of trouble. It’s been a tough weekend so I am happy to finish ninth but it’s a shame it was my last IndyCar race for awhile.”

In the seven IndyCar events the 30-year-old has done this year, he secured a win, two podiums, and three top-10 finishes. He picked up 22 points today and sits 23rd in the championship with 185 points.

This was Conway’s final IndyCar race of the year and he will return to the World Endurance Championship for the 6 Hours of Fuji, 19-20 October.
