Hunter-Reay Shines at Long Beach

Andretti Autosport's Ryan Hunter-Reay paced the 25-car field as activities at the iconic Grand Prix of Long Beach got underway Friday on the streets of the coastal southern California city.

Continuing the strong early-season form he has shown since joining the Andretti organization in the off-season, Hunter-Reay edged Team Penske's Ryan Briscoe in the second and quicker of today's two practice sessions, with veteran Andretti driver Tony Kanaan rounding out the top three.

Activities continue here on Saturday with Firestone "Fast Six" knockout qualifying. Sunday's 85-lap race starts at 4 p.m. EDT with live television coverage on Versus.

Ryan Hunter-Reay (#37 Andretti Autosport Honda) quickest in practice: "The track was a lot better in the afternoon session [when Hunter-Reay set his best time]. But it's only Friday and everything will get shaken up again tomorrow. We didn't make any changes to the car between [the two] practice sessions, but then spent the afternoon session developing the car, based on what we learned at [the street circuit in] Brazil. We did have a minor 'off' and damaged the rear wing at one time, but obviously, that didn't really affect us at all. We're ready for qualifying."
