LUCZO DRAGON/DE FERRAN MOTORSPORTS STRUGGLE TO PLACE 18th IN QUALIFYING FOR THE 2010 TOYOTA GRAND PRIX OF LONG BEACH

LONG BEACH, CA (APRIL 17, 2010) - For the third consecutive race, Raphael Matos and the Luczo Dragon/de Ferran Motorsports team failed to advance beyond round one of qualifying and will start 18th in the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.

Matos will start on row nine for the second race in a row after posting a fast lap of 1:10.5068. Will Power captured the pole position and will share the front row with Ryan Hunter-Reay.

"The car just didn't have the balance or the grip to push and move forward," Matos said. "We thought we had a good idea of how we would be after practice this morning and even though we did improve, it wasn't enough to advance. We're all disappointed."

The team has not advanced in qualifying since making it to round two and starting 12th in the season opener in Sao Paulo. Matos has started 23rd, 18th and now 18th ever since.

Contributing to the disappointment is that Matos had his career-best qualifying performance in Long Beach a year ago, starting third as a rookie.

"There's no question this hurts us, because it's difficult to pass here so track position is very important," Matos said. "We'll just have to regroup and come up with a strategy to compete tomorrow."
