Justin qualifies 19th at Kentucky Speedway's 1.5 mile oval
Justin and his Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing team-mate Graham Rahal will occupy the 10th row for Saturday's Meijer Indy 300 at Kentucky Speedway.
With his new chassis having been written off in last week's test here after a part failure caused it to crash, Justin was obliged to bring his older, slower Dallara machine to the track. With an average of 215.459 mph over the four qualifying laps (timings: L1: 24.7717, L2: 24.7338, L3: 24.6977, L4: 24.7109), he turned a respectable speed on the 1.5 mile oval.
Rahal's average speed was marginally slower at 215.263 mph, and the polesitter is championship leader Scott Dixon (Target Chip Ganassi) who ran at 218.968 mph.
Reflecting on his evening's work, Justin said: "It wasn't too bad a run. It was better than I expected so I am quite happy. Considering the difficulties we have had with damaging our quick car last week, we knew we would be slower in this one. It just shows that the McDonald's team keeps working hard and pushing. Sometime soon it will turn around and come our way."
The race can be seen on live on Saturday at 6:30 pm EDT (11:30 pm BST) on ESPN2. The action can also be followed at www.indycar.com and on the IMS Radio Network.
