SPARTA, Ky. - (August 9, 2008) - Both Dale Coyne Racing drivers turned in solid performances Saturday night in the IndyCar® Series running of the Meijer Indy 300 at the 1.5-mile Kentucky Speedway.
Bruno Junqueira (#18 Z-Line Designs) showed the Kentucky crowd why he is among the most talented drivers in the series by improving 11 positions to finish fourteenth in a car that he was not able to practice or qualify in. Junqueira was forced to start at the rear of the field due to mechanical issues that kept him out of the second practice and qualifying sessions on Friday.
"We improved 11 positions in a car that we had not been able to practice or qualify in," said Junqueira. "We had no idea how the Z-Line Designs car was going to do when we started the race."
The 31-year-old veteran gained the second most spots on the night.
Mario Moraes (#19 Sonny's Bar-B-Q/Sun-Rich Gourmet) showed off his driving skills as the promising 19-year-old rookie improved sixth positions to finish seventeenth in his first race at the Kentucky Speedway. He gained the fourth most positions and was the third highest finishing rookie in the race.
"We have been running really well on road courses this year, but here we were not nearly as competitive as we could have been," said Moraes. "I am looking forward to Sonoma and being back on a road course and having another top 10 finish."
