DREYER & REINBOLD RACING IS PREPARED TO TAKE ON THE OVALS
Indianapolis, Indiana (April 27, 2010) - After a very successful first four events of the season, Dreyer & Reinbold Racing is prepared to get back on ovals and produce positive results for the fifth round of the IZOD IndyCar Series. The team will hit the pavement this weekend for the Road Runner Turbo Indy 300 in Kansas City, Kansas.
With two 2nd place finishes under his belt so far this season, Justin Wilson is ready to switch gears completely and get into oval mode. This weekend will be the Brit's third time to compete at Kansas Speedway. In 2008, he qualified 22nd and finished in 9th place and in 2009 he started 17th and finished 14th. Since joining the IZOD IndyCar Series in 2008, Wilson has recorded five top-10 finishes (2008: Kansas-9th, Milwaukee-7th, Richmond-7th, 2009: Chicagoland-10th, Homestead-10th) on ovals. His first and only time to lead on an oval was for five laps at Kansas in 2008. Wilson's best qualifying position on an oval was 8th position at Kentucky in 2009.
To date, Wilson has had a strong showing with his new team. The veteran earned DRR's best result since team co-owner, Robbie Buhl, won in 2000 at Walt Disney World Speedway, as he came home with a 2nd place result for the organization in St. Petersburg, Florida in the IZOD IndyCar Series second round. Wilson has also qualified on the second row three times this year (Brazil-3rd, St. Petersburg-4th, Long Beach-3rd). He currently sits fourth in the championship with 125 points, just 47 behind points leader Will Power.
Mike Conway, pilot of the No. 24 Dad"s Root Beer machine, will be competing on the Kansas Speedway track for the second time this weekend. This will mark his third time to the circuit and his 11th oval race. Last year, Conway qualified 16th for the race and finished 19th due to early contact. His best qualifying result on an oval was 11th (Milwaukee, Richmond) and his best finishing position was 8th at Iowa.
Like his teammate, Conway has had a good start to the year as well. He had his best qualifying position at Barber, as he started on the front row for the first time in his IZOD IndyCar career. He has three top-10 finishes (Brazil-8th, Barber-9th, Long Beach-10th). Conway currently sits 13th in the point standings, 94 points behind the leader.
As Dreyer & Reinbold Racing heads into the fifth round of the season, they have some exciting things to note. Dad's Root Beer will return to the No. 24 machine and Charter Communications will be back on the No. 22 car for this weekend. Last week the team announced that Tomas Scheckter and MonaVie will return to the team as the third entry for the 94th running of the Indianapolis 500.
Dreyer & Reinbold Racing will be on track for the Road Runner Turbo Indy 300 in Kansas City, Kansas on May 1st. The race telecast will air live on Saturday, May 1st at 1:30 pm (EDT) on ABC. The race will air live on the IMS Radio Network, XM channel 145, and Sirius channel 211. For more updates on the team, please visit www.dreyerreinboldracing.com.
What they have to say about the Road Runner Turbo Indy 300:
Justin Wilson, No. 22 Charter: "We are totally switching gears now and heading into the oval part of the season. I'm really looking forward to Kansas and it will be interesting feeling the DRR car out for the first time on an oval. Dreyer & Reinbold Racing has a lot of history on the ovals and I know there's a lot that I can keep learning from that. Who knows where we're going to end up?"
Mike Conway, No. 24 Dad's Root Beer: "I can"t wait to get out at Kansas. It has been a while since I have been on an oval so I'm looking forward to it! The team's efforts over the winter have been paying off on the road/street courses, so hopefully it will be the same case on the ovals."
