Justin qualifies 6th in St. Petersburg

26-March-2011 - Justin and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing qualified 6th for Sunday’s Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg after overnight set-up changes improved the No. 22 TranSystems car’s handling during morning practice. Will Power took pole position for Team Penske (1:01.9625, 104.579 mph), with Dario Franchitti (Chip Ganassi Racing) alongside him on the front row. Justin’s team-mate Ana Beatriz (No. 24 Ipiranga) was the highest qualifying rookie and will line up 20th on the grid for Sunday’s race.

Justin successfully navigated the first two rounds of qualifying, setting the third fastest time in his qualifying group in Round 1 (1:02.9866) and dug deep for a quick lap of 1:02.5573 (103.585 mph) to put the No. 22 car in the Firestone Fast Six. Like his competitors, Justin used his two available sets of the softer, red-sidewalled Firestones in the first two qualifying rounds and he was able to post a quick lap of 1:02.7729 (103.229 mph) on used reds in the Fast Six. Though he was unable to qualify higher than 6th, Justin was nonetheless pleased with the progress made.

“It was a great effort to make it into the Firestone Fast Six by everyone working on the TranSystems car,” said Justin. “We stepped up our performance at the right time for qualifying, but once you’ve made it to the Fast Six you want to do better. I think we’re close and we have the car in the window now, so I'm hoping for a strong race tomorrow."
