Justin qualifies 8th for São Paulo Indy 300
Justin and Dreyer & Reinbold Racing qualified 8th in the No. 22 HP car for Sunday’s Itaipava São Paulo Indy 300, missing out on a place in the Firestone Fast Six for the first time this season. Will Power scored his fourth consecutive pole position and delivered Roger Penske’s 200th pole in the process (1.21.896) and Ryan Hunter-Reay (Andretti Autosport) will start alongside him on the front row. Justin will line up on the fourth row of the grid alongside Helio Castroneves (Team Penske). Justin’s team-mate Ana Beatriz will start from 25th in the No. 24 Ipiranga car.
In the first round of qualifying, Justin made it through an ultra-competitive second group in 6th place (1.23.255), but in the second round the No. 22 HP car struggled to make an impact until late in the session. Justin put everything on the line in his final lap to deliver his only 82s lap of the session (1.22.647), but the time was a quarter of a second shy of a place in the Firestone Fast Six.
"Unfortunately, we didn't make the Firestone Fast Six today,” said Justin. “It's a shame, because we made good progress today with some positive steps forward. I thought that we had a little bit more in it, but we just couldn't get the balance where we liked it for qualifying. It's how it goes. The competition level is high and we’ve got some work to do to try and make the car a little bit quicker. It's disappointing, but I think we have a good race car."
