VISION RACING'S TOMAS SCHECKTER TOPS CHARTS IN DAMP, COOL PRACTICE FOR THE WATKINS GLEN INDY GRAND PRIX

WATKINS GLEN, New York -- Tomas Scheckter in the #2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone recorded the fastest speed (122.855 mph) in today's only practice session in preparation for the Watkins Glen Indy Grand Prix at the historic 2.45-mile Watkins Glen International. Overcast skies, cool temps and damp conditions pushed the day's only practice session back to the afternoon while qualifying was canceled all together.

Unfortunately for Scheckter, in lieu of qualifying, the lineup for Sunday's race will be determined by the combined results from Friday's two practice sessions. As a result, Scheckter will start the race in 15th while his teammate, Ed Carpenter, in the #20 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone will start in the 18th spot.

Since today's practice had little bearing on the starting grid for what will be just the IndyCar Series' fifth road race, a total of 145 laps were recorded by 19 drivers and Scheckter tied with Eddie Cheever Jr. for the most at 15 total laps for the session. Carpenter completed just nine laps and had a best speed of 108.896 mph.

Scheckter decided to gamble with slick tires and more laps in order to take advantage of the track time to help him and his team with a setup for the race. He and the team are confident that the additional information will help them for the race.

Sunday begins with warm up session at 8:30 a.m. (EDT) and the Watkins Glen Indy Grand Prix begins at 3:30 p.m. (EDT).

Practice Results and Quotes (June 3, 2006):

Tomas Scheckter -- #2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

On practice session:
"It was wet, then dry and the conditions kept changing. We went out there and did a couple laps and the car was pretty good, so I suppose we know what we have if the conditions are like this for tomorrow. So I'm just happy with what we were able to do today."

Ed Carpenter -- #20 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone

On practice session:
"We really didn't get as much accomplished as we would have liked to given the weather. Obviously we aren't going qualifying, but that isn't that big of deal to me. I am more focused on finishing this race and allowing myself to get in more laps and experience. It seems like that at every road course race I'm able to gain a lot of experience. Both last year and this year here, every time I go on track the conditions are always different. This session is a good example as it was too dry to be on wet tires and too wet to go to slick tires. So it was hard to really get much out of it today."

Larry Curry -- Vision Racing Team Manager

On practice session:
"We are happy with the session and that Ed and Tomas were able to get out there and do some running. Tomas actually did quite a bit of running and that's because we don't really know what the conditions will be like for tomorrow. In times like this, a driver has to tell you when he thinks he can go to slicks (tires). So when Tomas was out there running he can see the track conditions first hand and tell when the track is drying due to the changes in color on the pavement, so he gets an idea of what that's like. That's why we let him make that call. So if we are dealt that kind of hand tomorrow, then we'll be in good shape."
