Sharp Lines up 14th after Qualifying is Canceled at The Glen

It wasn't the day Scott Sharp was hoping for with the cancellation of qualifying this afternoon at Watkins Glen International Raceway resulting from the delayed arrival of a medical helicopter due to weather conditions. Sharp and the Delphi Fernandez Racing team had made steady gains in practice yesterday while electing to conserve tires. As a result, Sharp did not post a representative lap having set his fastest time on old tires. With the grid being set by Friday's combined times, Sharp will line up 14 th . The IndyCar Series field was able to take to the track for a 75-minute practice session this afternoon under blustery and damp conditions.

Sharp has enjoyed considerable success at The Glen in both Trans-Am and SCCA competition. He finished ninth last year after starting 18 th in the series' inaugural race on the 11-turn, 3.37-mile road course.

Scott Sharp - #8 Delphi Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"It was a pretty uneventful session for us. The car was quite good early in the wet and, as the track was drying, rain tires were becoming marginal and people were switching over to slicks. At that point, it was a matter of how much you wanted to press the car in iffy conditions. We easily could have gone two to three seconds faster when I was on the track if you wanted to take some chances. I'm sure once we put dry's on that we could have gone much quicker. There was really just no reason to do that. We'll save that for tomorrow. I'm pretty pleased. I have a good feel for where to run if it is raining tomorrow. Unfortunately, it was not dry enough to really get a feel on the changes we made last night to see if they were good or not. I think we are in really good shape. In hindsight, we should have probably put a couple more sets of stickers on the car like some guys did [yesterday] and would have been higher up on the chart. Still, we thought we were pretty smart to save those and have more stickers to use in the race and more stickers to use this morning in preparation for qualifying. With the rain, we didn't have a chance to do that. I think we have a really good car for tomorrow. We ran our fastest lap all day yesterday on the last lap of what would be a full tank run with quite a number of laps on the car. I think that's very promising."
