Meira Set To Start from Outside of Fourth Row
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (June 3, 2006) -- Vitor Meira will launch his No. 4 Panther Honda from the eighth position tomorrow for the Watkins Glen Indy Grand Prix after qualifications were cancelled Saturday. The starting lineup was determined by practice times from Friday, which gave Meira a spot on the outside of the fourth row.
Qualifications were cancelled because an emergency helicopter was not on site early this morning due to the weather conditions. By rule, the helicopter has to be on site for the IndyCar Series cars to run.
There was a brief practice session held early in the afternoon on Saturday, but the Panther team only ran a handful of laps in the wet conditions. The track began to dry as the practice progressed and the team elected to wait until tomorrow morning's warm up session to perfect its race setup.
Vitor finished 18th at Watkins Glen last year after an electrical problem. In this season's only other road course event, Meira started 12th and climbed all the way into a fifth place finish.
The race will be held on Sunday, June 4th with coverage available live on ABC at 3:30 p.m. (EDT), on the IMS Radio Network and XM Satellite Radio Channel 145.
Vitor Meira Quote:
"We've got a great setup in the Panther car for tomorrow. We decided to only run a couple laps today in the practice session because we know we can give it a go in the practice tomorrow. In the race we want to get the first and second lap in and then make our moves. The track is going to be different tomorrow, not just because of the rain, but because of the DP cars that are running here tonight. I think this place is the best road course I've been to in the United States. This place has everything; ups, downs, banked, slow and fast corners -- it's a complete course."
