IndyCar Series Veteran Set For the Ride of His Lifetime

Panther Racing driver Vitor Meira is accustomed to giving race fans the ride of a lifetime when he occasionally drives the Indy Racing Experience two-seater, but on Wednesday afternoon, it will be Meira who takes a thrill ride with the United States Navy's Blue Angels.

"I can't even explain how honored I am to ride with the Blue Angels and get to meet some of the great people associated with the United States Navy," Meira said. "I'm very excited to ride tomorrow, and I really have to thank everybody associated with the U.S. Navy and the Indianapolis Air Show for giving me this opportunity."

The Blue Angels, the U.S. Naval Flight Demonstration Squadron, will be in Indianapolis this weekend for the Indianapolis Air Show, held at the Mt. Comfort Airport on Aug. 25-26th.

But tomorrow, the Blue Angels will give IndyCar Series veteran Meira a taste of speed and maneuverability that his No. 4 Delphi Panther Honda can't reach. Interestingly enough, this will not be Vitor's first ride in a jet aircraft; in December of 2005 he rode in a Mirage III jet fighter, in which he broke the sound barrier with the Brazilian Air Force.

"I wasn't sure after I broke the sound barrier that I would actually be able to do this again," Meira admitted. "But, honestly, it's such a thrill. We're talking about the Blue Angles -- how could I pass this up?"
