'TRUE VALUE 200' ANNOUNCED FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE IRL EVENT
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Jan. 25, 1996 -- True Value will provide title sponsorship of the Indy Racing League event at New Hampshire International Speedway scheduled Aug. 18, the "True Value 200".
The announcement was made Thursday by Chuck L. Kremers, True Value vice president of marketing, and NHIS chairman Bob Bahre at the new Walt Disney World Speedway near Orlando, Fla. The Indy 200 at Walt Disney World Presented by Aurora is the inaugural IRL event. The new league is affiliated with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home of the Indianapolis 500.
True Value, an IRL official sponsor, is a well-recognized name in racing. Based in Chicago, Ill., and founded in 1948, there are more than 6,000 True Value stores coast to coast. "Every area in the United States is an important market for us," Kremers commented. "New England is our second largest concentration of stores in the country. We are happy to be a partner of the league and New Hampshire International Speedway. This is an exciting new opportunity for auto racing, and an exciting new opportunity for True Value as well.
The True Value 200 at NHIS will mark the start of the second Indy Racing League championship season. The IRL will conclude its points championship each year at the Indianapolis 500, which means a three-race points chase in 1996. Following the Indy 200 at Walt Disney World, the IRL reconvenes at Phoenix International Raceway for the Phoenix 200 March 24 before heading on to Indy for opening day May 4. The 80th running of the Indianapolis 500 is Sunday, May 26, 1996.
The True Value 200 at New Hampshire will kick off the 1996-97 IRL championship, followed by the Las Vegas 500K Sept. 15. All 1996 Indy Racing League events will be televised live by ABC Sports television and broadcast worldwide via the IMS Radio Network.
