Treadway Racing Announces Sponsorship and Driver Selection for 1999 IRL Season
Indianapolis, January 5, 1999: Treadway Racing announced today the continuation of their winning tradition as they re-signed sponsorship partner Sprint PCS for the 1999 racing season. In addition, the two partners released that the driver of the Sprint PCS/G-Force/Aurora/ Firestone Special will be up-and-coming IRL pilot, Sam Schmidt.
Schmidt, who has two year's experience in the IRL including a second place finish at the 1998 season-ending event at Las Vegas, is excited to join the Treadway Team. "It is such a wonderful opportunity for me to join forces with such a great sponsor and Treadway Racing-both are proven leaders in the IRL. With this kind of partnership, I hope to continue the tradition and be a strong contender for the championship."
Confident in the outlook for the new racing year, team owner Fred Treadway is pleased to continue the Sprint PCS relationship. "Sprint PCS has always been an exceptional match for our team and we are pleased to announce their renewal for 1999. They have been an integral part of our winning tradition over the past two years and we look forward to achieving our goals this season. We are very confident in Sam's ability to maintain these goals both on and off the track. He has proven that he has what it takes to run in the front of the field, and with Sprint PCS, we will set our standards at a championship level."
"Sprint PCS is proud to continue our partnership with the Treadway team," said Chuck Levine, chief sales and marketing officer for Sprint PCS. "Our drivers, Arie Luyendyk and Sam Schmidt are among the best in the IRL, finishing first and second in the final race of the 1998 season. We expect Arie and Sam's success will continue in 1999. We believe the commitment to superior racing exhibited by Fred Treadway reflects the same commitment Sprint PCS brings to the wireless marketplace. We look forward to a highly successful partnership for the next Indy Racing League season."
