Samsung Telecommunications America and RadioShack team up for Indy Racing League Marketing
Companies to sponsor Treadway Racing properties for Chevy 500 at Texas Motor Speedway.
(DALLAS, September 6, 2002) -- Dallas-based Samsung Telecommunications America (Samsung) and Fort Worth-based RadioShack Corporation (NYSE: RSH) today announced a joint marketing campaign that leverages the companies' sponsorship of Indy Racing League (IRL) team, Treadway Racing.
The companies have launched retail sales programs in the Dallas/Fort Worth market that highlight Samsung's newest SPH-a500 and SPH-n400 wireless phones. Through Sept. 14, consumers purchasing a Samsung phone at RadioShack or making a $50 RadioShack purchase will receive two tickets to the Chevy 500 IRL race on Sept. 15 at Texas Motor Speedway.
As part of the joint campaign, Rick Treadway, premier Indy driver for the Treadway-Hubbard Racing team, will appear with the Samsung/RadioShack co-branded IRL show car at select RadioShack stores in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. During the appearances, IRL fans will have the opportunity to meet Treadway and get a driver's seat perspective from the replica show car.
Treadway also will represent Samsung and RadioShack at the Chevy 500 Race by racing the companies' co-branded IRL car as part of a cooperative effort with Treadway-Hubbard Racing and Bradley Motorsports. Treadway will drive the Bradley Motorsports Dallara Infiniti entry in the race.

The marketing program marks the second association between Samsung, RadioShack and Texas Motor Speedway this year. Last April, Samsung and RadioShack signed a promotional partnership with Texas Motor Speedway by sponsoring the Winston Cup NASCAR race, which was named the Samsung/RadioShack 500.
