Townsend Bell will make his return to American open-wheel racing this weekend with Panther Racing. The two-time IndyCar champion team signed the former Indy Lights champion today.

Bell's first race will be at Kansas Speedway this weekend in the Argent Mortgage Kansas Indy 300, driving the #2 Menards/Johns Manville Dallara/Chevrolet.

The 29-year-old American driver returned home from a one-year stint in Formula 3000 last season. "I'm very happy to be racing in the US again and excited to get this opportunity with Panther Racing," said Bell.

"Townsend (Bell) is a talented race car driver with a lot of experience in diverse forms of racing," commented John Barnes, co-owner of Panther Racing. "He's been on our radar for some time now, and we've excited about having him with the team."

Bell looks forward to his first race in Kansas. Even though he has limited experience on the oval tracks, Bell is confident.

"The Indy Racing League is a great series that continues to grow in popularity," Bell stated. "Panther (Racing) has enjoyed great success and I'm hoping to add to their accomplishments. I'm looking forward to being back on the ovals."

Bell will pilot the Menards/Johns Manville Chevrolet. This will be his first experience in the IndyCar series. The former Indy Lights champion will be competing with former rivals from his karting, Formula Barber and Indy Lights days.

"I've raced against a lot of the drivers in the series so it will be good to renew some rivalries as well," commented Bell. "We're getting ready for the race at Kansas this weekend, and I am really looking forward to representing everybody at Menards, Johns Manville and Chevrolet."

"We're excited about having him in the Menards/Johns Manville Chevrolet. Throughout his career, he has always been quick, aggressive and smart," Barnes said as he wrapped up the press conference.
