KELLEY RACING LOOKING FOR CHAMPIONSHIP & TOP 5 AT TEXAS
1999 Pep Boys Indy Racing League Championship: Round 11 (final) Mall.Com 500 Texas Motor Speedway / Ft. Worth, Texas
Notes and Quotes: Kelley Racing teammates Scott Sharp and Mark Dismore look toward Sunday’s Mall.Com 500 with an outside shot at the Pep Boys IRL Championship and a top five in points, respectively. Scott Sharp and the Delphi Automotive Systems team are currently fourth in points, 46 points behind leader, Greg Ray. The MCI WorldCom team, piloted by Mark Dismore is eleventh in points; however, a solid top five finish could boost Dismore to as high as fourth in the final championship standings. Dismore, who won the pole in the June race at TMS, and Sharp lead all cars in testing speeds for this weekend’s race.
#8 Scott Sharp, Delphi Automotive Systems/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear: “I’m really pumped up about this race. The Delphi car was extremely fast in testing, and we still have an outside shot at the championship. We’d need a lot of luck to win the championship, but our focus is just to win the race and let the luck come to us.”
#28 Mark Dismore, MCI WorldCom/Dallara/Oldsmobile/Goodyear: “If the car stays consistent, the MCI WorldCom team has an awesome shot at winning the race. I like the Texas Motor Speedway. I know we have a fast setup and fast car, and I’m looking forward to this weekend. If we could win this race, it would be a great boost heading into the off-season and preparing for next year.”
The Mall.Com 500 is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. local time on Sunday, October 17 and can be viewed on ABC. PPG Pole Qualifying is Saturday, October 16 at 12:00 p.m. local time and can be seen on Speedvision (check local listings).
