Fernandez 12th in Chevy 500 Qualifying
Adrian Fernandez has qualified 12th for the Chevy 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. MBNA Pole Qualifying was held this afternoon, on the opening day of IRL IndyCar® Series track activities, following a one-hour morning practice session. Fernandez will be making his second career start on the 1.5-mile oval this Sunday. He qualified ninth and finished fifth in the Bombardier 500 held at Texas Motor Speedway in June.
Fernandez heads into Sunday's 200-lap race on a hot streak, after winning the last two, and three of the last five IndyCar Series races. He is currently fourth in the championship standings.
Adrian Fernandez, #5 Quaker State/Telmex/Tecate Panoz G Force/Honda/Firestone:
"They changed the qualifying format so we qualified today, on the first [practice] day, for this race. I think the car feels good. On the last lap, I had a moment coming out of [Turn] Four. The sun is in your face right there. I was trying to stay tight and went onto the apron and almost lost the car. Obviously there are a few cars faster than us, but the race is what is important. I see Tony [Kanaan] is very close to us on the grid, and I think the position that we have should be good for another strong showing from Fernandez Racing."
