FORT WORTH-DALLAS (May 22, 2000) -- Many races have a trophy with a tradition. Winners of the Indianapolis 500 have their face immortalized in the Borg-Warner Trophy. Dale Earnhardt, Jr. was presented the Fort Worth Cup for his NASCAR Winston Cup win at Texas in April.
Texas Motor Speedway is beginning a new tradition. The speedway has commissioned an original crystal trophy to be the signature award for its June Indy Racing Northern Light Series race. A lucky and creative fan will play a part in the history of Texas Motor Speedway by naming the new trophy.
"We thought this would be a great way to let our fans play an even bigger role in what we do," said speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. "Fans can log-on to the speedway website and submit their best ideas. We've already received several good suggestions."
The hand-cut imported crystal trophy, which stands 20 inches tall, will first be presented in Victory Lane to the winner of the June 10 Casino Magic 500.
Anyone may enter the contest by logging onto www.texasmotorspeedway.com and linking to the appropriate area on the website. The person submitting the winning entry and a guest will be watching the upcoming Casino Magic 500 from the suite of speedway general manager Eddie Gossage. They will also receive a pair of pit passes and be in Victory Lane with the winner of the Casino Magic 500 and the trophy.
To enter, fans should log-on to www.texasmotorspeedway.com and e-mail their suggested name for the trophy along with their name, address, and phone numbers - daytime and evening. Entries must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, June 2. In case of duplicate entries, a drawing will be held to determine the winner. The winner will be notified Tuesday, June 6 and final results will be posted on the speedway website.
