VISION RACING ROUNDS OUT TOP 10 IN PRACTICE ON THE STREETS IN PREPARATION FOR THE HONDA GRAND PRIX OF ST. PETERSBURG
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The opening practice sessions of the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, held on the streets of St. Petersburg, have been completed and Vision Racing drivers Tomas Scheckter and Roberto Moreno are pleased to have improved from session to session to round out the top 10 and finish the day at 9th and 10th on the speed chart. In the first session, Scheckter was ninth quick recording a time of 1:04.0028, and in the second practice session, Scheckter remained in the ninth spot but improved his time to 1:03.9946.
Moreno, who is filling in for Vision Racing's full-time driver, Ed Carpenter, is no stranger to the #20 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone as he tested the car this past week at Homestead-Miami Speedway and last season at Infineon Raceway. He, like Scheckter, was also able to improve from session to session. In the morning session, Moreno ended up 13th fastest with a time of 1:04.3153 and in the afternoon session, Moreno picked up the pace to make the top 10 in 10th and log a time of 1:03.7248
The team recorded a total 134 laps between both the #2 (68 laps) and #20 (66 laps) Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone machines and a total of 19 IndyCars are competing this weekend logging a combined 1,045 laps. Saturday begins with another practice session 9:15 a.m. (EST) and qualifying for the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg begins at 1:45 p.m. (EST).
Tomas Scheckter -- #2 Dallara/Honda/Firestone
On practice sessions:
"Practice went pretty well. We are progressing nicely. Everyone at Vision is pleased as we have made a great deal of improvement from last year and we even showed improvement throughout the day today. I was happy that we were in the top ten in both sessions and I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
Roberto Moreno (Substitute) -- #20 Dallara/Honda/Firestone
On practice sessions:
"I'm quite happy at the moment. As I've said before, it's quite difficult to just jump in the car and catch-up in such a short time. But the team has really helped me a lot with that so I'm feeling more comfortable. We are competing with very experienced people here who have a couple more years of experience in these cars than I do, so catching up has been tough, but I think I'm getting up to speed quite nicely. I was pleased to improve from practice to practice and I'm looking forward to getting in the car tomorrow."
