Kanaan to Start Third at Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (April 1, 2006) - Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan recorded a lap of 103.493 mph (1:02.6127 sec.) during the Indy Racing League® IndyCar® Series' qualifying shootout on the 1.8-mile, 14-turn circuit through the streets of St. Petersburg and will start from the third position for Sunday's running of the IndyCar Series Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg.

The second event of the 2006 IndyCar Series schedule is set to go green at 3:45 p.m. (EDT) Sunday with ESPN providing live broadcast coverage of the 100-lap event beginning at 3:30 p.m. (EDT). The race may also be heard on XM Satellite Radio on XM channel 145.

Tony Kanaan, #11 Team 7-Eleven Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"This type of qualifying format is fun and I think (Scott) Dixon got us right at the end. It's going to be a long race but the #11 Team 7-Eleven car is very good this weekend. I'm very happy for Dario (Franchitti) and the entire AGR team; it's our second-straight pole at this race track. We had our moment that will last for the rest of our lives at this track last year and hopefully it will bring us more luck tomorrow. The crowd is great, they love what they are watching and it's just the perfect environment."
