Matsuura Qualifies Seventh in St. Petersburg

Kosuke Matsuura's strong performance on the streets of St. Petersburg continued with Matsuura securing the seventh spot on the grid for the IRL IndyCar® Series first non-oval race - the Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg. Matsuura had been amongst the top-10 throughout practice on the 1.8-mile temporary street circuit, and was able to put together his best lap of the weekend on the 14-turn course in qualifying this afternoon. Matsuura last competed on a street circuit in 2003 in the Formula Renault V6 Eurocup Championship. Despite a strong road racing background, tomorrow's 100-lap/180-mile event will mark the longest road/street circuit race of Matsuura's career.

Kosuke Matsuura, #55 Panasonic ARTA Panoz/Honda/Firestone:

"It was a pretty good run. The car was very good and I didn't make any mistakes. That was my fastest time this weekend, and I am the quickest Panoz driver. Aguri (Suzuki, team owner) really helped me so much. I spent a lot of time with him. He has a lot of experience from Formula One and other series, and every session we improved. I am very excited for the race. Tomorrow will be a tough race and physically difficult at 100 laps. This is my first time in a long race [on a street/road circuit]. I am really looking forward to it."
