Brazilian Sets Ninth Quickest Lap in Return to Road Course

SPARTA, Ken. (Aug. 25, 2006) -- Lincoln Tech Panther driver Vitor Meira finished Friday's practice sessions at Infineon Raceway with the ninth fastest lap time overall. The Brazilian driver, who finished ninth here a year ago, has his sights set on tomorrow's qualifications.

Vitor's quickest lap was 105.316 mph, 1:18.6207 seconds.

Panther Racing finished 5th here last year with Tomas Enge, the best career IndyCar finish for the then-rookie driver. Meira and his Panther team are one of only six teams that are still eligible for the IndyCar Series championship. The last time the team was in contention for the league title this late was in 2003 with Sam Hornish Jr., who finished fifth that season. The team won back-to-back championships in 2001 & 2002.

The race will be held on Sunday, August 27, with live coverage provided by ABC at 3:30 p.m. (EDT) with additional coverage provided by the IMS Radio Network and XM Satellite Radio Channel 145.

Vitor Meira Quote:

"It was a productive day for the Lincoln Tech Panther team. This track is awesome. But, at the same time, it's a lot of work for us. There are no straight-aways where you can relax, but I work out hard and I'm prepared for this. I'm looking forward to speaking with (Engineer) Bill Pappas about some improvements that we need to make. Our team is confident about tomorrow and the weekend."
