Sharp Finishes 14th at Infineon Indy Grand Prix
It was a long and ultimately disappointing day for Scott Sharp and the Delphi Fernandez Racing team in the Infineon Indy Grand Prix this afternoon. Sharp was saddled with handling issues on the #8 Delphi Panoz Honda throughout the weekend, and found himself with a "major handful" during the 80-lap race. Sharp, who started 17th , was unable to match the pace of the leaders and subsequently fell a lap down near the halfway mark. He hung on to finish 14th .
The Delphi Fernandez Racing team will enjoy a weekend off before heading to the season finale at Chicagoland Speedway on September 10.
Scott Sharp - #8 Delphi Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"This wasn't one of the kind of days we wanted for the Delphi Fernandez team but given how the weekend had gone, we knew it was probably going to be a bit of a struggle today. It was important to make the best of what we had. I think we put about six or seven turns of wing in the car over the course of the race. It actually got it much better than where we started for awhile there and we could at least run with some comparable cars. On a day like today, you just hope that a few more guys drop out and you pick up a few spots but there really wasn't that much attrition."
Tom Anderson, Co-Owner/Managing Director:
"It was a difficult weekend to say the least for the Delphi Fernandez team. We were off the mark coming in and never found it all weekend. Our strategy during the race didn't work. We weren't able to capitalize on any situations. We had a decent running car in the middle of the race but, by that time, possible strategies had gone away. Unfortunately 14th was all we could do today. We'll put it in the truck and retire the Panoz chassis and go back to the Dallara for Chicago in two weeks. We'll look forward to ending the year with a tremendous result in Chicago."
