Sharp Pleased with Open Test Results

With the opening race of the IndyCar Series 2006 calendar just three weeks away, Scott Sharp and the Delphi Fernandez Racing team were pleased with the results of their final pre-season testing. Focusing on the handling of the #8 Delphi machine as opposed to a fast lap in the draft, Sharp posted the 12th fastest time today on the 1.5-mile Homestead-Miami Speedway oval -- the site of the first race on March 26 -- in the conclusion of a three-day Open Test session featuring 18 competitors. Sharp set the fourth-fastest time overall in the #8 Delphi Panoz/Honda/Firestone during the two-day road-course portion of the test.

Scott Sharp, #8 Delphi Panoz/Honda/Firestone:
"We were pretty pleased with the day. Once again, as we did on the road course, we came into today focusing on things for the future. We didn't get into the drafting game too much to post a great speed. We worked on a lot of bigger items on the car and learned a lot. I think we have a pretty good race car right now. I'm sure we could go faster if we need to, but I think we got our job done."
