INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 21, 2000-- Walker Racing driver Sarah Fisher has been selected as "Open Wheel Magazine Driver of the Year" in the Indy Racing League category. Sarah was chosen based on the votes of race fans.
The twenty-year old just completed her rookie year in the Indy Racing Northern Light Series and made history in 2000 by becoming the youngest woman to ever qualify (and the third-youngest person ever) for the Indianapolis 500, she also became the youngest woman to claim a podium spot in an IRL event with her third-place finish at Kentucky Speedway in August.
"I was very honored when I found out about this award from Open Wheel Magazine," said Sarah. "It's great that the short-track open-wheel fans follow the drivers who had their start there. The fans have been great to me, especially when I go back and watch the midget and sprint races. It is a real honor that they still follow my progress, and I'm very grateful."
