Robby Gordon: He Can Drive For Miles And Miles
Huntersville, NC (May 20, 2004) - Many people know that May is undoubtedly Robby Gordon's busiest month of the racing season. They also know that Gordon is one of racing's most dynamic drivers, and in May will compete in both NASCAR Busch and Cup Series races as well as the world famous Indianapolis 500. What they don't know is just how many miles of racing Gordon will have under his belt once his hectic schedule eases at the beginning of June.
With five races in the NASCAR Cup Series, three in the NASCAR Busch Series, and the Indianapolis 500, Gordon will participate in an incredible 2854.5 miles of qualifying and racing.
In theory, if Gordon did have the time, this is what he could do with all of those miles.
May 21, 2004 (Start: New York City)
7:10 p.m. - Watch the New York Mets/Colorado Rockies Major League Baseball game at Shea Stadium.
May 22, 2004
9 a.m. - Drive 957 miles to St. Louis for a quick tour of the St. Louis Arch. Considering he is driving across the country, it is only fitting that he visits the "Gateway to the West".
May 23, 2004
8 a.m. - Waking up extra early, Gordon drives the 1050 miles to Albuquerque, New Mexico. While there, Gordon visits the Unsers, one of racing's legendary families. Considering he races the 24 hour Baja 1000, this leg of the trip is easy in comparison.
May 24, 2004
10 a.m. - Gordon heads out towards Harrah's Resort in fabulous Las Vegas. While there he takes in a Blue Man Group show and enjoys some rest and relaxation in the "City of Lights".
May 25, 2004 (End: Los Angeles, California)
Noon - Leaving Las Vegas, Gordon travels 275 miles toward the west coast for the Los Angeles Lakers/Minnesota Timber Wolves NBA playoff game at Staples Center in Los Angeles.
With all the driving Gordon will do in May, the air miles quickly add up as well. Gordon will fly an estimated 9,400 miles in May. Where could he go with all of those miles? Pretty much wherever he wanted to. But you can bet it would be someplace with sand dunes a mile high and as far as the eye could see. Perfect for a little off-road racing.
