VISION RACING HAS STRONG RUN AT RICHMOND CAPTURING THIRD TOP-10 FINISHES IN A ROW
RICHMOND, Virginia -- Vision Racing drivers, Tomas Scheckter and Ed Carpenter, each earned their third top-10 finish in a row with a strong run under the lights at Richmond International Raceway for the SunTrust Indy Challenge presented by XM Satellite Radio.
Scheckter earned his third top-10 finish in the #2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone ending the race in the seventh spot tonight after starting from row six and in 12th place. Due to rain at the track on Friday, qualifying was a wash out so the starting grid was set by combined practice speeds.
Scheckter is on a bit of a roll heading into the Kansas Lottery Indy 300 at Kansas Speedway. In the last three races he's had a 10th place finish at Watkins Glen and Texas and now seventh at Richmond. He's also made a jump in the driver's points standings from 14th to 13th. The seventh place finish Scheckter earned tonight is also his best of the 2006 IndyCar Series season.
Carpenter also earned his third top-10 finish in a row this a season in the #20 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone, by securing the eighth spot at Richmond. This also happens to be Carpenter's best finish at Richmond in an IndyCar. His previous best finish was 12th in 2005, also with Vision Racing.
Like his teammate, Carpenter is also on a bit of a roll of late. At Indianapolis, Carpenter finished in the 11th spot for the second year in a row before heading to Watkins Glen and scoring his career-best and a team-high finish of sixth. From there it was off to Texas where he ran under the lights to finish in the ninth position and then to Richmond where another strong run put Carpenter in the top-10. Carpenter remains in the 16th spot in the driver's points standings for the second week in a row.
Both Carpenter and Scheckter will look to make it four top-10 finishes in a row for the season and challenge for Vision Racing's first victory in the IndyCar Series at Kansas Speedway for the Kansas Lottery Indy 300. The 200-lap/300-mile event will air Sunday, July 2nd, at 1:00 p.m. (EDT) on ABC Sports, IMS Radio Network, XM Satellite Radio channel 145 and on the web at www.IndyCar.com.
Tomas Scheckter -- #2 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"It was a good weekend for the team as we got another solid top-10 finish. That's saying a lot really with where the team was at the beginning of the weekend. When we got here we were really struggling a lot, but we put our heads together after the warm-up today and we came up with a good set-up and that definitely helped us out in the race."
Ed Carpenter -- #20 Vision Racing Dallara/Honda/Firestone
"It was pretty good. We got off to a slow start at the beginning of the race, so I just worked with my adjustments in the car, made a change on the second pit stop, and really got the thing running better. It was really hard to pass here, but we still had a good day. The team finished seventh and eighth, which is the third top-10 finish for both of us and that's not too bad. I think we could have been a little better, but with how the warm-up session was today, I'm pretty happy with how we raced tonight."
